The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) is a nationally recognized animal welfare organization with a reputation for innovation, compassion, and results. Their Washington, D.C. campus plays a critical role in serving pets and families in the community—providing shelter, medical care, adoption services, and outreach programs that keep animals safe and out of harm’s way.
What sets BVSPCA apart is their commitment to not only rescuing animals, but actively working to keep them in homes whenever possible. Through community programs, accessible veterinary services, and education, they address the root causes of pet homelessness.
At their D.C. location, dogs like Bruno—and so many others—are given a safe place to land while they wait for their second chance. Every day, their team works tirelessly to ensure these animals receive not just care, but dignity, enrichment, and love.

With the addition of Brandywine Valley SPCA to the Kennel to Couch network, we’re able to extend our reach into a new region—supporting more pit bulls and helping more families find their perfect companions.
Through this partnership, Kennel to Couch will sponsor pit bulls at BVSPCA, helping cover the costs that often stand in the way of adoption. From medical care to daily support, these sponsorships make it easier for shelters to focus on what matters most: getting dogs into homes.

Honoring a Legacy of Love
This opportunity was made possible through a generous legacy gift given in honor of the late Eric Byrnes.
Eric had a deep love for pit bulls, inspired by his own beloved dog, Babe. Together, they represented everything we know to be true about this misunderstood breed—loyalty, gentleness, resilience, and unconditional love.
Because of this gift, every pit bull sponsored by Kennel to Couch at Brandywine Valley SPCA will be funded in perpetuity.
That means more than just financial support—it means certainty. It means that these dogs will always have advocates. It means that their path from kennel to couch will never be limited by resources.
Eric’s legacy ensures that his love for this breed continues in the most meaningful way possible: by giving more dogs the chance to live the life they deserve.
