Kennel to Couch is pleased to announce that we are partnering with TWO ADDITIONAL animal shelters as we begin our much-anticipated expansion westward.
To further our mission of saving those Pit Bulls most at risk of euthanasia, K2C is linking arms and joining paws with Best Friends LA and NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) in California. Part of an initiative led by Best Friends Animal Society, Best Friends LA and NKLA brings together passionate individuals, city shelters, and a coalition of animal welfare organizations. Their goal is to end the killing of homeless dogs and cats in shelters throughout Los Angeles and to make it a no-kill city sooner rather than later.
Best Friends, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, operates the country’s largest sanctuary for homeless animals, promotes adoption and provides both spay/neuter services and educational programs. When Best Friends launched the NKLA initiative in 2012, only 56 percent of the dogs and cats in city shelters were being saved compared with an astounding 90.49 percent in 2020!
To accomplish this remarkable feat, the Best Friends LA and NKLA initiative worked enthusiastically and tirelessly on several levels: hosting high-volume adoption events at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center, NKLA Pet Adoption Center and other large scale adoption events; launching high-profile and comprehensive marketing campaigns, and providing strategic, community-based low-cost spay/neuter services.
Best Friends is currently taking this collaborative model and expanding it nationwide in an effort to make the country a no-kill country by 2025.
